What leadership and team culture have to do with
Future Office and Office Change.
1. Transformational leadership
Leadership means positively influencing swarm behavior. Different talents have differentiated knowledge which, when exchanged, leads to synergies and thus opens up unexpected dynamics. Leadership does not determine who has to do what and when, but rather provides support in terms of goals/vision and ensures the achievement of these milestones by means of guidelines. Employees should assume more personal responsibility and thus more identification. Decision-making processes are thus shortened due to the greater competence of each individual. The company moves forward more efficiently, which is essential in view of the exponential development in the VUCA world. Setting clear objectives and demonstrating the WHY promotes a feedback culture and gives each individual in the team the feeling of being part of something big; everyone knows why which activity is being carried out and thus sees the purpose, the big picture.
Encouraging and challenging the stars with regard to a high-performance team is liberating for the company and its team. In order to get as many employees as possible into a passionate zone, it makes more sense to select qualitatively and pay attention to team members for whom development seems possible and sensible, rather than investing a lot of time in those who are resigned. Leadership is there to make individuals better. In the spirit of the gardener who encourages and challenges her different plants individually, thereby creating resilience and resistance.
Ultimately, director-centered leadership at a transactional level may even have been justified at times in the past. Repetitive, monotonous work had to be implemented with clear instructions. However, in today's megatrends, the transformation to a knowledge society demands more from these leaders than just directing. Instead, a situational leadership style at eye level should lead to acceptance, identification, intrinsic motivation and passion. This is very much in the spirit of a trainer/coach, who individually welds his crew together and fills positions with strengths. All the more so because the next evolution, namely that of artificial intelligence, from a knowledge-based to a human-based society is already on the horizon.
2. Impact on the corporate culture
Having a shared vision, a sense of purpose and therefore a passion contributes to the team culture of the company and therefore significantly to its success. Without a sense of purpose, which is one of our basic human instincts, we become disoriented and demotivated; focus and communication skills diminish. The bottom line is that a sense of purpose is vital and therefore essential for the corporate culture.
Having a vision as a company is also essential because it sets the goal of the company's cultural development. With a clearly exemplified corporate culture, a shared vision that is managed top down, a strong corporate culture grows buttom up, which positively influences communication, appreciation and interaction and creates figures of identification in high-performance teams.
3. Why the corporate HUB is aligned with the corporate culture
When planning new working environments, practices, workspaces, showrooms and stores, the DNA, vision and culture of the company are often given too little consideration. The serious consequences of this are incorrect weighting of zones in layouts, communication and interaction processes that do not harmonize with the planning and shared desk or home office strategies that do not correlate with the corporate culture.
Going through a careful and thorough change management phase means first and foremost determining together whether a corporate culture already exists that is exemplified by leadership and authentically implemented by the team.
Without defining the vision, leadership and team culture, downstream processes such as design, conception, look & feel, zoning, layouts and project management cannot be seriously implemented.
As brand architects, we know how to take up existing visions through targeted workplace consulting, develop them further if necessary and thus lay a cultural foundation for the overall project - for #epicmoments by Frey & Frey.
